Operations
Australia/ New Zealand
Newmont owns or has an interest in three Australian gold mining operations and is nearly finished with constructing the expanded Boddington gold mine 81 miles (130 kilometers) southeast of Perth, Australia. We also operate the Martha mine open pit and Favona underground mines in Waihi, New Zealand.
In 2007, our Australian and New Zealand mines represented 22 percent of our global equity gold sales. At year end 2007, the operating mines and Boddington contained an estimated 22 percent of our global gold reserves.

Batu Hijau, Indonesia
Newmont has a 45 percent ownership stake in the PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PTNNT) copper and gold mine, located on the island of Sumbawa in Indonesia, which is 950 miles (1,528 kilometers) east of Jakarta.
Our company operates the mine, which is a joint venture with Nusa Tenggara Mining Corporation of Japan, an affiliate of Sumitomo Corporation (35 percent owner) and PT Pukuafu Indah of Indonesia (20 percent owner).
PTNNT equity sales in 2007 were roughly 230,000 ounces of gold and approximately 200 million pounds of copper. Our equity reserves were approximately 4.2 million ounces of gold and 4.1 billion pounds of copper at the end of 2007. Our equity non-reserve mineralization was 39 million mineralized tons containing 0.06 million ounces of gold and 0.17 billion pounds of copper at the end of 2007.
North American Operations
Newmont owns or holds an interest in mines in Nevada and Mexico. We are also exploring and developing the Hope Bay district in the Canadian Arctic. Our North American operations represented approximately 46 percent of Newmont’s worldwide gold sales in 2007 and accounted for 36 percent of the company’s global gold reserves (excluding Canada).
South American Operations
Newmont operates two mines in the South American countries of Peru and Bolivia.
Ahafo, Ghana
Newmont’s African operations are in Ghana and include the Ahafo mine and a development project known as Akyem. The Ahafo mine is located in the tropical, cocoa-growing region of mid-western Ghana, approximately 180 miles (290 kilometers) northwest of the capital city of Accra. The Akyem project is located about 80 miles (129 kilometers) northwest of Accra.
Ahafo contributed approximately 8 percent of Newmont’s worldwide equity gold sales in 2007. Ahafo and Akyem together have approximately 17.4 million equity ounces of gold reserves, representing 20 percent of our global gold reserves at the end of 2007. In addition, the African region contains more than 53 million tons of non-reserve resource mineralization at an average grade of 0.064 ounces per ton.
