*Silver as impregnating agent for wood preservation

The hitherto practized wood preservation with chrome- and arsenic-keeping means has turned out to be unfavorable in the past.
Chrome and arsenic being highly-toxic, many people had to die of it and moreover a lot of legal actions were taken subsequently.
The companies which were involved into these cases had to suffer enormous image damages.
In this context the white metal offers an outstanding alternative: an inlet liquid euipped with silver ions is at least as effective as the preceding chrome- and arsenic-keeping products, but the inlet liquid manages to work without any dangerous pollutants. And that’s the big difference!
And this is exactely the reason why the US American timber industry already came across this nontoxic silver-keeping impregnating agent.
Currently it seems likely to be that this new method of wood preservation will prevail against conventional methods of wood preservation in the coming years.

At the latest in 2009, but more likely still in the year 2008, the supplementary consumption resulting from this new application field will break through the sonic barrier of 100 million silver ounces.

*Long-term data storage

Investigations proved that the data pool contained in large-scale computers can be destroyed with special electromagnetic waves from the distance. That is the reason why more and more companies proceed to employing films with a high share of silver for the archiving of data on microfiches.

The big advantage is the following: the films show a service life of up to 100 years and furthermore cost a lot less.
However, the chief advantage consists in their immunity when it comes to attacks on large-scale computers.
This new consumption field should lead to an additional silver demand of several dozen millions of ounces in the coming years.

*Medical applications

Because of the fact that silver kills bacteria, interesting fields of application arise in medicin.
Colloidal silver is known for being strongly antiseptic, completely harmless for humans and absolutely nontoxic.
