[05:45 am] This is why they don't tell us the real inflation: Deflating Inflation

Of course the answer is, it's not true! It's all BS! Think about the inflation numbers specifically. If the true rate of inflation was allowed to be published, would the 10-year note be trading at a yield of 2%? Would the 30-year bond be trading at 3%? Of course not! If inflation is really 10%, the real (inflation-adjusted) annual return on the 10-year note is -8%. Over the life of the note, the holder sees their purchasing power guaranteed to diminish by about 2/3. What kind of mindless fool would buy this? NO ONE! If the actual rate of inflation was accurately disseminated, the yield on the 10-year note would have to soar to 12%, maybe even 15% just to attract buyers. Double-digit interest rates would make servicing the current debt virtually impossible. The overall debt and deficit would immediately soar to truly unsustainable heights and the Great Government/Financial/Military Ponzi would unravel almost overnight.

So, the statistics must be distorted and spun in the government's favor. There is no other option.

In the last 25 years the German consumer price index rose by 58.1% but a visit to the world famous Oktoberfest costs you now 152.2% more than in 1985. The calculation is based on following expenses: local public transport, 1/2 grilled chicken and 2 litres of beer

So real inflation - according to this example - is about 3 times higher than the government wants people to think it is. And it's been exploding lately.

[01:00 pm] The state is trying to get rid of its debts through secret inflation: Manipulating Inflation Indexes To Steal From Retirees & Public Workers

Financial Repression is the academic term for how governments can pay down enormous debts by forcing interest rates below the rate of inflation, and then systematically confiscate the purchasing power of their citizens' savings over time, while keeping people from being able to escape or defend themselves. It is a hidden form of investor wealth confiscation and redistribution with a very long track record of "success", that is as effective in its own way as taxation. In my previous article, "Financial Repression: A Sheep Shearing Instruction Manual", I reviewed the policies used by advanced economies between 1945 and 1980 to successfully slash over 70% of the amount of government debt relative to economic output. This strategy is posted on the IMF website and is drawing international attention among government policymakers and economists for very good reason – it's what actually worked for the governments the last time around, and how they dodged default or hyperinflation.

This method, which was used in the USA since the year 1945 to reduce war debts, only works under certain circumstances:

A) economic growth must be strong, which is not the case nowadays

B) there mustn't be any new debt - which is also not the case today

C) savors must not notice the fraud for a very long time

Hyperinflationits have now blown it twice. First, they insisted hyperinflation would happen before deflation. They were wrong. Then, during the QE2 inspired equities and commodities ramp, they said the same thing. They were wrong again.

However, the deflationists ignore the following aspect: a real deflation against money only exitsts in a gold standard. In the fiat money system, deflation can only appear as long as bonds and currencies still work. When they get sold-off - like it happened with the PIIGS - a currency crisis comes up, which results in a crash of almost all assets and furthermore sends prices in the supermarket through the roof, due to the devaluation of the currency. This is something that happened in Iceland in 2008.

BUENOS AIRES—Argentina's government has fined more economists for challenging official inflation estimates in what lawyers call a violation of freedom of speech.

Consumer prices rose 10% in February from a year ago, according to the national statistics agency, Indec. But most economists say annual inflation is closer to 25%, irking government officials who deny inflation is a problem.

On Tuesday, the government fined consulting firm Econviews 500,000 pesos ($123,442). It fined the consultancy abeceb.com an equal amount Monday for allegedly publishing inflation estimates that "lack scientific rigor."

"This isn't about methodology or truth in advertising, as the government claims. It's really about silencing dissident voices," economist and former finance undersecretary Miguel Kiguel said in a phone interview Tuesday.

The government is just stupid, isn't it? The whole country will never ever trust in official figures again.

How does inflation and hyperinflation affect credit? By driving up interest rates—obviously. But what is the effects of rising interest rates in an inflationary/hyperinflationary environment?

Real estate price collapse.

Lenders—on seeing prices rising and purchasing power deteriorating in an inflationary economy—naturally raise the interest rate they charge, on the future expectation of inflation during the period of their loan. Obvious: If I lend money for a year, and expect the inflation rate to be 10% for that year, I’ll naturally lend out my money at 15% interest—or more, if I think inflation is accelerating.

BEIJING (AP) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao tried Sunday to reassure the public about the government's ability to control inflation, a day after China raised interest rates amid worries that rising prices could hurt social stability.

Control inflation? We doubt that he knows what he's talking about. If we were in China we wouldn't rely too much on this statement. It's better to buy gold and silver and only trust yourself. Many Chinese people have already woken up and have bought lots of precious metals, as we know from previous reports and articles.

Unfortunately, the mass hasn't acted yet, which means - in the first place - that there are still many many people unprotected and - in the second place - that more than 1 BILLION people from this huge country still have lots of cash that is waiting to finally pour into hard assets, as soon as inflation really kicks in on an everyday basis, in places that are well known to everybody, like the supermarkets.

[10:30 am] Inflation is on the rise: Higher food, energy costs push up wholesale prices

"Wholesale prices fell for three straight months in the spring and early summer. That stoked fears of deflation, a widespread and debilitating drop in prices, wages, and the value of homes and investments.

But the recent increases in the producer price index have eased those concerns. Federal Reserve officials saw "only small odds of deflation" at a meeting last month, according to the minutes released on Tuesday."

They just don't get it. It's not always only about black or white, cause there is grey as well. So once again. Luxury goods like houses will continue to decrease in value (deflation), essential things of life, like food, will continue to get more expensive. (inflation)

[06:00 pm] For those of you who are new to the world of economics: the principal definitions of some important economic concepts

Inflation | Hyperinflation | Deflation

It's never a shame to repeat some essential concepts, which we seem to deal with almost everyday. Don't hesitate to ask your friends if they know what really characterizes these three concepts. It belongs to the basic knowledge of any person to know what they are about, cause otherwise it's impossible to further successfully think about what we have to do with our money during each of these different phases.

[01:00 pm] GoldSeek: Fed mandates inflation

[05:45 am] Unfortunately, this is just the very beginning: Food stamp nation with massive inflation

"The number of people in the United States needing food stamps to survive is trending toward 45 million.  Those living on fixed incomes or government assistance are being ravaged by exploding inflation.  Year over year pork is up 68%, coffee 45%, sugar 24%, salmon 30%, oranges 35%, barley 32%, beef 23%, and the list goes on.  U6 (unemployment) just soared to 17.1%, and as what Art Cashin calls "the tale of two economies" persists, it is leaving behind a trail of tears."

...whenever someone wants to tell you that inflation is around 2%, kick his ass.

Core statement: Inflation scenario, gold rises anyway, crystal clear. Deflation scenario,eg in case of rising interest rates, the economy would die, any green shoots (if there are any) would be wiped out, consequence would be people losing their "faith" in the system , gold up, silver up, food prices up, real estate prices down, luxury stuff prices down, car prices down...and so on.

Taking steps to slow down growth of the Chinese economy would mean a next big challenge for the US economy! Asia, but especially China has prevented something much worse so far.

[06:00 am] To what extent can central banks really steer interest rates? Does the Fed Ultimately Control Interest Rates?

Ask any historian of Germany, Argentina, Bosnia, or Zimbabwe why interest rates skyrocketed during their respective battles with hyperinflation. Why were their central banks unable to control borrowing costs?

In the end, central banks can only temporarily distort the savings and demand equation. The more the Fed prints, the higher the eventual rate of inflation will be. If mainstream pundits truly believe the Fed can supplant the entire public and private market for debt indefinitely, then I don’t want to be around when that fantasy inevitably becomes a nightmare.

Keeping rates at the current level is only possible for a limited period of time, then the currecy gets sold off and hyperinflation is around.
